Who doesn’t love a meal of pasta with meat sauce? It has the element of comfort food for a lot of people. This is a fast, easy recipe that will surely leave every plate clean.
Here is what you will need for 4 servings:
1/2 bag of spiral pasta
pinch of salt
pepper- to taste
1lb. ground beef
1 onion – red or white
1-2 cloves garlic, or 1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. basil
1 tsp. oregano
1-2 bay leaves
1/2 cup green onions, chopped
1/2 cup mushrooms, diced
1 green pepper, diced
1 can tomato sauce
1 can stewed tomatoes
1/2 cup red wine, or dark beer
Parmesan cheese for garnish, optional
Here’s what you do:
Fill a large pot 3/4s full with water and add a pinch of salt. When the water is at a full rolling boil add your pasta, and cook until al dente, strain and set aside.
In a large sauce pan brown the ground beef, white onions, garlic, mushrooms and green pepper until cooked through.
Add the can of tomato sauce, stewed tomatoes, basil, bay leaves, oregano, pepper and wine and simmer gently for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, remove bay leaves.
Add the cooked pasta and green onions to the tomato sauce and stir well. Simmer 5 minutes, stirring often.
Grate some parmesan cheese, or your favorite cheese on top and voila! Dinner is served.
Suggestion – gently tear your bay leaves before adding, by doing this more flavor is released
